WELCOME TO MY TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE!
To all my friends... I am excited (and a little scared) to take on another half marathon but this time it's for a really great cause... to raise enough money to get a research grant for blood cancer in a little girl's name... my friend Jennifer Marston Howe has already run the Marine Corp marathon in Haley's name and is now putting together a team to raise money to get a grant in her name.
Here is a little bit about her story…
On May 21, 2015, my friend’s ten-year-old niece, Haley, was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and the journey with ALL began.
It has been brutal. Haley has endured hundreds of oral chemotherapy doses at home, over 100 rounds of intravenous chemotherapy, 1 body scan, 2 emergency room visits, 25 spinal tap chemotherapy injections, 5 blood transfusions, 2 surgeries and numerous inpatient admissions. She endured hair loss twice, weight gain, weight loss, and on and on. Haley is now in the maintenance phase of treatment, which lasts for two years and includes oral chemotherapy daily and chemotherapy through her port once a month at the clinic.
Thanks to organizations like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), who fund groundbreaking research, the survival rate for children with ALL increased from less than 5% in the 1960’s to a survival rate of over 92% today.
However, the battle against blood cancers is far from won. Despite progress, more than one third of blood cancer patients sadly do not survive 5 years after their diagnosis. More funding is needed to advance research and help save more lives.
So, I am fighting for Haley and other blood cancer patients. I want Haley to know that I’ve done everything I can to help fund a 100% cure along with better treatments. I have joined TEAM HALEY. We are a team of over 50 friends and family members who will be doing a race through Team In Training this fall. I will be doing the Las Vegas Rock and Roll half marathon race on November 13, 2016 in Haley’s honor. I will proudly wear the purple Team In Training race jersey with Haley’s name on it. Our team goal is to raise $100,000 so that LLS gives us the opportunity to put an LLS-funded research grant in Haley’s name.
Together, we can change the lives of people affected by blood cancers. Please help LLS continue the fight to put an end to blood cancer and please help us reach this incredible goal. You can donate online through my fundraising page or you can send a check made out to LLS (for Capital Group folks, don’t forget matching gifts!!)
Please take a look and you can help in various ways: either helping me meet my portion of the total team goal, or even better, joining with us on the team and running with us! There are other races you can do to help too - there are marathons, half marathons or 5K or 10Ks too!
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read, support, participate or most importantly, pray for this courageous little girl and her family. Totally no pressure at all but thank you so much for taking the time!! Any amount, large or small, goes a long way!!
