Hearing the words you have cancer the first time is devastating! Hearing you have cancer a second time is numbing, but hearing the words you have cancer a third time is mind blowing! I have had to deal with that type of news for the past 13 years. I can honestly say it doesn’t get any easier either! Since there is no cure for the type of lymphoma I have, I will more than likely hear those words again. The other challenge I face is can my heart and lungs endure any more treatments?? There comes a point when treatment destroys the body, or it becomes immune to chemotherapy. In the past 12 years, I have endured 36 rounds of chemo, 34 rounds of Rituxan, 5 ½ weeks of daily radiation, 6 surgeries, a bone marrow transplant, and for the past four years, I continue to receive IVIG infusions every eight weeks for antibodies that were destroyed by all the treatments. Since the radiation in January, my white blood cells continue to drop which makes for another medical concern.

For this reason, I am compelled to continue fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training!! I have been blessed with an incredible amount of strength to complete marathons, ½ marathons, triathlons and century bike rides, and to be a beacon of hope and inspiration to other cancer patients!! It is my hope that cancer research will find a cure, or better treatments to help not only prolong my life, but all the other that battle as well!! That is why it is my mission to raise $50,000 to fund a Research Grant, and call it the Audrey’s “To The Cure” Grant in honor of all those that have battled, and in memory of all our loved ones that have lost their battle.

I will proudly carry the names given to me across the finish lines as I finish the Solvang bike ride, the Lavaman triathlon in March, and the Tahoe bike ride on June 7th,  2015!!
