RIP Jon McAnally
Aug 14, 2011 by Sarah Thomsen
Today my honorary patient and my friend, Jon McAnally, passed away after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Jon has left behind a loving wife and beautiful daughter. He was a smart, caring man who left the world a better place. I will now continue my training and fundraising in his memory. As this hits so close to home, it seems more important than ever to help organizations such as the LLS who fight every day to find a cure for blood cancers. I appreciate any donation and will be thinking about all of you who help as I run in November, carrying a picture of Jon with me.
Update on Jon 7/21/2011
Jul 21, 2011 by Sarah Thomsen
I wanted to post on update on my honarary patient Jon. Today I found out that his cancer has spread into his spinal fluid and other internal locations in his body. Up until now, he has been treated at our local hospital here in Huntsville. The hospital has decided that the best treatment for Jon is an experimental treatment and that they are unwilling to administer it themselves. This means that Jon will go to Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN to receive the treatment and hopefully, he will receive a bone marrow transplant if the treatment works. At a minimum, this means that he will be 117 miles away from his wife and 5 month old baby for the next 5 months. While this is going to be extremely hard on him and his family, there is hope in this experimental treatment. It is through organizations such as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that these experimental treatments are funded for research. Please consider sending this website to your friends and family to give them a chance to donate and learn more about how they can help cure blood cancers. I thank you all for your time and concern and will keep posting updates when I can.

Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
As many of you know, I first completed a Team in Training event back in 2009 when I ran the Nike Women's half-marathon in San Francisco, CA. I didn't realize at that time how much blood cancers affect all of our lives. Since that event, I have been thinking of doing another Team event to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
In July of 2010, I found out that my good friend, Andrea McAnally's husband, Jon, had been diagnosed with Lymphoma. At that time, Andrea and Jon had only been married for a few months, and had recently found out that Andrea was pregnant. Andrea and Jon now have a beautiful little girl, Lanie Sue, and are still fighting Jon's illness. It really brought home the importance of raising money for this cause to save as many lives as we can.
So I am at it again. I am training for a half-marathon in Savannah, GA on November 5, 2011 while fundraising for the LLS to fight blood cancers. Please help me one more time in our fight for a cure. A donation of any size is appreciated, and if you have any words for Jon and Andrea, please leave them in the comments and I will make sure they see them.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
