Racing to Save Lives
HEY GUYS!!!!
Thanks for visiting my page! As some of you may know (or some of you may not because Im horrible at staying in touch with people) I have recently began competing in triathlon competitions and distance races. So far I have done 3 triathlons and a handful of short distance run races and my goal is to complete a marathon; the Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon on May 31st to be exact.
I'm training to participate in this endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My honored teammate (person I am running for) is my grandfather, Sidney Smith, was diagnosed on February 28, 2008 with non-hodgkin lymphoma, stage 4, with organ involvement. He underwent about 7 chemotherapy treatments before he was declared in remission (which means cancer free). He was retested 10 weeks after treatment ended, and while his blood counts remained low, no cancer was found. On December 5th he underwent a bone marrow biopsy to determine if any cancer is present. He still remains in remission.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Best Wishes,
Chase Holmberg
P.S. - I would like to extend a very special THANK YOU!! to Vincent Lucindo, Mark Loudermilk, and Mike and Randy Geddie for their participation in our Deer hunting Fundraising trip. It was a blast. I want to announce I will be hosting some TURKEY hunting and FISHING trips also. Please shoot me a quick e-mail or phone call for more information....chaseholmberg@gmail.com or 334 657-8408
Oh and sorry about the picture. For some reason I can't get it to turn upright so don't sprain your neck looking at it...haha...thanks again!!!
UPDATE: For everyone who is checking back to how I did.
San Diego was great, although there was very little sunshine. I met some great individuals who also raised funds for LLS and their cause. As for the race...it was awesome. I think some 22,000 were registered and 13 thousand finished...or something like that. I finished in 3 hours and 49 minutes which was a little over my goal but I'm happy with it anyway and thrilled that I finished my first marathon. Again, thanks to everyone for their support, inspirational words and donations.
