Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

If we've talked recently you know I've been struggling with wanting to make a difference and not knowing how. Working in a hospital, my life is touched by cancer on nearly a daily basis. I struggle with the tragedy of this illness both for the patients who must learn to cope with their diagnosis and the family that must face losing a loved one. My role of providing Ensure and ensuring proper nutrition hardly seems adequate enlight of what they're facing.

More recently my family has become one of these families dealing with the impact the disease makes when it touches your life. I've spent some time wondering what I could do. I toyed with the idea of returning to Team in Training despite having sworn off long distance runs as too painful and time consuming and yet when the email arrived in my mailbox I clicked on the link and signed back up.

So here I am, training for my third event with Team in Training, my fourth half marathon and doing the Nike Women's marathon for the third time. While I'm training for this event I'll be working to raise $3,000 to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

I've donated the first $100, please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.

7/11/13

This is the part where I remember what a commitment this is, when my shin splints flare, my metabolism revs up and I get HUNGRY. 3 weeks in and I've already raised $500 plus (17% of the way to my goal). I've also partnered with Jessica Medina at Pampered Chef for fundraising so if you're in the market for kitchen supplies, 10% of the total show earnings will go directly to the cause.

To place an order, follow these directions:

1. Go to www. pamperedchef.biz/jessicamedina

2. Click on "Shop Online"

3. Type in "Sara" as the host and choose my name.

4. Start shopping!

*You may have your items shipped to me (in Salinas) for a flat rate shipping of $5.25, or you can have them directly shipped to you for a rate based on how much you spend.

I have more stretching to do and 8 miles to run this weekend. Thanks for the love and support. Go Team!

9/18/13

The last few weeks, I've been battling a foot injury that's kept me mostly off the road and in the pool. I've been cleared to run again with a diagnosis of a subluxed cuboid. Who even knew I had a cuboid?! 5 weeks until Nike and just 2 weeks until my fundraising deadline. I've reopened a Pamper Chef sale that will be open until this weekend. See details abov for ordering.

"I remember my husband Bob as a determined patient of Mantel Cell Lymphoma; determined to find the best meds, partner with his care staff in a positive way, and live life to the fullest with the help of God and good medical care. We hoped for a cure before he left us, we still hope for one with good research."
