Make Strides Towards Victory Over Cancer
Welcome The Hike for Discovery donation page!
Cancer has and will affect everyome in some way. Nearly 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Half of those people will be diagnosed with blood and lymphatic cancers. Millions more loved ones and friends lives will be forever changed. Through its immense resources, volunteers, and help from you, the Leukemia and Lymphoma society touches thousands of lives through research, advocacy, and support programs.
These people affected by leukemia and lymphoma need your support. The LLS provides a quick and easy way to help. The LLS will do the majority of the work. All you need to do is donate directly and safely through this page or through a check or cash. Directions for non-electronic donations are given at the end of the page. The LLS pledges that up to $1350, 75% of all funds raised go towards oatient and family support and research not administrative costs or fund raising incentives. Any money raised after $1350, 100% goes to support and research. You can rest assured that the money that you give will go towards changing thousands of people's lives
The LLS's program Hike for Discovery allows volunteers including myself enjoy the outdoors while helping people declare victory over cancer. My hope is to raise $7,500 with you help! I have personally commited to raising a minimum of $1,350 for the LLS. Not being a person of substantial means, I need all the support I can get to reach this obligation. Your money will go so much farther, you will feel great about helping people in need, and it's tax deductible. I, myself, am donating $105 to the LLS. I am also hiking all over New Mexico this fall!
Please donate and support LLS's dedication to declaring victory over Leukemia and Lymphoma.
My life has been touched and changed in innumberable ways by cancer. It has taken away people that I have loved. It introduced me to heros that I admire for their strength. . .
Here are some of their stories:
JM is a professional baseball player whose life and career was derailed by Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, yet he took defeating ALL as one more obstacle to defeat. He never had a bad attitude or gave up his dreams. He is now in remission and is back on track to becoming a ledgend.
JL was a sociable, optimistic, fit financial manager who (along with his family) developed Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He fought this menace with a hope and amazing additude that none could match. He lived his life to the fullest, and refused to give up.
These are only a few of the many stories and memories I have of amazing cancer patients. If you have more please share them in your donation comments! It has given me a path in life . . . to do what I can to declare vicory over cancer. However, I can't do it alone . . .
I have been active in cancer advocacy for many years. I have participated in several Races for the Cure and Relays for Life. I have been a leadership counselor at a camp for kids affected by cancer. I have raised $17,000 and ridden over 100 miles for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I co-organized a Victory 5K campaign to raise over $25,000 in support of people with cancer. I am currently a physician assistant student. After my certification, I intend to specialize in oncology.
